The man who built the machine

There has been no baseball team in my lifetime like the Big Red Machine! They were the soundtrack of my summers as a kid, and they are unquestionably one of the best teams ever assembled.

We all know about Rose, Morgan, Bench, Perez and Anderson, but how about the designer who put the pieces together.

I've always thought that Bob Howsam's story would make an interesting book. Apparently, Daryl Smith thought so too, and he talks about Howsam and his book on this episode of the Joe Elliott Radio Podcast

The book, MAKING THE BIG RED MACHINE, is available at the usual on-line outlets.

Another way to blow your money?

The debate is on! Should Kentucky's Legislature allow tracks to install those big-time revenue generating video lottery terminals? Decision day is later this month.

Patrick Neely of the Kentucky Equine Education Program think's that's a fine idea.

Ken Ostrander of Kentucky's Family Foundation says, not so fast. He thinks it's destructive to the state and it's people.

They both do a good job presenting their sides on this
podcast
